What is the moon made of?
Idea
This is the third in a three-card series about the American space program from the 1960s. Last month’s card covered the Gemini program and June’s the Mercury program. This one covers the Apollo program, in particular Apollo 11’s moon landing. This idea was the first one for the series. I thought of a mouse landing on the moon, excited that he had found it was made of cheese. I thought of other space-related ideas such as mission control, etc., but came up with the series of three for the three programs. When I started working on this one, I decided to make it more “realistic” by having the mouse land on the moon and be disappointed it was not made of cheese.
By the way, July 20 of this year was the 57th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing.
While researching this card, I stumbled upon this toy. I remember having it as a kid and how hard it was to get his hands into the gloves.
Design
The design is almost identical to the previous one. In this one, the is an additional parallelogram that is the astronaut wondering where the cheese that he was promised is. (June’s has more details about the rest of the build.)

Cover
The cover uses pastels, printed text, and earth colored with colored pencils.
Build
- 6” x 4.5” (Oops! I cut the cover down to English sizes during assembly so this is a slightly different size than the others)
- The card has an index paper exterior with two layers of colored cardstock on the inside.
- Everything except the banner was cut by the (new!) Silhouette Cameo 5α.
